IFPHK Background

IFPHK was formed in June 2000 as a non-profit self regulatory organization for the fast-growing financial planning industry.

We are the sole licensing body in Hong Kong authorized by Financial Planning Standards Board Limited in the U.S. to grant the much-coveted and internationally recognized CFP^CM certification to qualified professionals in Hong Kong and Macau.

We represent the financial planning practitioners in Hong Kong with more than 10,000 members from such diverse professional backgrounds as banking, insurance, independent financial advisory, stockbroking, accounting, and legal services.

Currently there are over 126,000 CFP professionals in 23 countries/regions, the majority of these professionals are in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Japan while there are more than 3,800 CFP professionals in Hong Kong.

CFP Certification

Introduced in 1972, the CFP certification quickly became financial planning’s highest standard worldwide because CFP professionals have met the rigorous 4Es (Education, Examination, Experience and Ethics) certification requirements and voluntarily agreed to adhere to high standards of competence and ethical practice. The Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong is the marks licensing authority for the CFP marks in Hong Kong and Macau, through agreement with FPSB.
