Foreword

Uniting the Pinnacle of Financial Education Brilliance

In the latest survey released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) International Network on Financial Education, Hong Kong has achieved an exceptional third place ranking in overall financial literacy, with an impressive score of 70. This accomplishment reflects our collective commitment to enhancing financial knowledge and understanding within our community.

However, the survey also reveals a concerning discrepancy. While Hong Kong shines in financial knowledge, we find ourselves ranked 18th in financial behavior. This unexpected contrast is exemplified by the unfortunate incidents such as the JPEX scandal that unfolded last year. It appears that the consumers’ sense of responsibility has declined, potentially influenced by the rise of aggressive entrepreneurship and slasher businesses.

Given the current complex landscape characterized by high inflation, rising interest rates and the cost-of-living pressure stemming from post pandemic-related disruptions, the lack of financial sensitivity poses significant risks. It is crucial that we come together and maximize our efforts of financial education.

In light of this imperative, the theme for this year’s awards is “Uniting the Pinnacle of Financial Education Brilliance”. Through this theme, we aim to gather and celebrate the outstanding achievements in financial education while encouraging more partners to join us in this vital endeavor. Our ultimate goal is to provide the recognition that financial education deserves, with a focus on the breadth of variety and audience reach.

Furthermore, I would like to emphasize that the mandatory ESG criteria will be retained this year. This criterion reflects a company’s unwavering commitment to the community through their ESG efforts. To be eligible for the FELA awards, interested corporates must also submit four ESG programs. This requirement ensures that we honor those who have made a meaning impact on the ESG side of the community.

We firmly believe that numerous companies, both commercial firms and non-profit organizations, have made significant contributions to the financial education landscape. It is our mission to raise appreciation for these pro bono endeavors and make every effort count.

I extend my heartfelt invitation to you to join us on this transformative journey, advancing our community for the greater good. With great enthusiasm, I hereby announce that the “IFPHK Financial Education Leadership and ESG Awards” is now accepting applications. I encourage all interested partners to seize this opportunity and participate in this prestigious event.
